Light in the New Year

Thank you for your patience as I took a break from the blog. The last 18 months have taken me too much away from writing and photography, and while I won’t blog weekly as I used to, I do want to begin again, anew for the new year, the new decade.

I’ve changed the tagline up there at the top of the blog: Exploring the Nature of God. Every now and then, when there are pictures or words I think you’d enjoy, I’ll share them here. Mostly, I hope to bring a little more light into your life through this blog, beginning with this morning’s sunrise. These are from my cell phone, shot quickly so as not to miss the light.

When I created this blog in February 2011, I had no idea where it would take me and how many wonderful readers I would get to meet along the way. The last seven years have been full of adventures both in real life and in this virtual space. I published a book, and the seeds of another book (someday?) took root right here in this space.

The first part of this year has been challenging for me, nothing more than “first world” problems, but daunting nonetheless. Continue reading →

To my nephew and niece-in-law, three years later

Three years ago, I wrote down some marriage advice for my nephew and his bride. It turned out to be one of my most visited posts.

My nephew and niece-in-law are still happy three years later, and though I don’t think it has anything to do with my advice, I wanted to share the post with you again today. After all, we’re in the midst of wedding season, and perhaps your nephew/niece/daughter/son is set to marry soon, and you’d like some ideas of what to share with the happy couple. More tiny spring babies

Spring is full of fuzzy newborns. In last week’s post, I shared a photo of a tiny fawn with you. This week brings more spring chickens, er, goslings.

Now, I admit it. I do not love Canada geese. But their goslings are pretty cute. These particular ones live by a mountain lake in North Carolina.

The smallest fawn

I heard the crashing of a deer through the woods, spooked by the dog and me meandering around our back yard. Because I had seen a doe and tiny, wobbly fawn up the street earlier that morning, I peered into the woods.

Right near the edge where lawn ends and woods begin, the neighbor’s yard crew dumps grass clippings every week. I gasped (and then dashed inside to grab my camera):
